Bhanu, the cultural hero of Nepal unification: Chancellor Uprety
Nepal Academy Chancellor Ganga Prasad Uprety has termed Adikavi Bhanubhakta Acharya as the cultural hero of Nepal unification.
In his address to a virtual programme organized by the International Nepali Society (INS)’s Language-Literature Committee on the eve of 208th Bhanu Jayanti today, Chancellor Uprety said Acharya had paved the foundation for unification through the medium of literature like King Prithvi Narayan Shah did for territorial unification of modern Nepal.
Stressing on the cultural unity, he shared the Academy has been making efforts to popularize Nepali literature at international level.
Former member-secretary of the Academy, Dr Tulasi Prasad Bhattarai said Bhanubhakta’s fame has been established in the national and international arena for his contributions to propagate symbolic identity of Nepal.
On the occasion, Prof Dr Brataraj Acharya said the writings of Bhanubhakta had contributed to the promotion of Nepali language and literature among youths.
Associate Professor Prabha Bhattarai termed Bhanubhakta as a spiritual and moral poet with revolutionary thinking. Assistant Professor Gyanu Adhikari said Bhanubhakta’s ‘Badhushikshya’ was a mirror of the society albeit it was somewhat criticized for injustice to women.
