Minister for Home Affairs Bal Krishna Khand has said the government was active for the disaster mitigation through the use of science and skills.
At a programme on disaster mitigation organised virtually on Saturday, Home Minister Khand said collective efforts were needed to safeguard the lives of citizens from the natural disasters.
Chief District Officers from all 77 districts had joined the virtual meeting.
On the occasion, Minister Khand urged the concerned officials to use the traditionally learned skills for the disaster risk reduction and asked to abide by the building development code.
Likewise, he said unplanned road construction taking place in the hills has intensified disaster risk and the new constructions have added to risk in the old construction.
Similarly, the Home Minister directed the CDOs to proactively work for saving poor and under-privileged people’s lives from cold wave in Tarai and snowfall in mountains.
Also speaking at the programme, Home Secretary Tek Narayan Pandey said new technology was needed for the disaster reduction including the early warning system.
