PM Deuba urges UML Chair Oli to assist in endorsing MCC compact
Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has intensified his efforts to run the parliament meeting smoothly and pass the MCC compact. In this connection, PM Deuba urged CPN UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli to assist in endorsing the MCC pact during the meeting held at his official residence, Baluwatar on Thursday evening.
Minister for Communications and Information Technology Gyanendra Bahadur Karki informed that the PM and UML Chairman held the discussion on how parliamentary impasse could be cleared and MCC pact endorsed.
In the meeting, PM Deuba urged UML Chairman Oli again for the endorsement of MCC compact, but Oli insisted on addressing his party’s demand for parliament resumption.
The UML has continued parliament obstruction for six months, demanding that Speaker should endorse action against 14 lawmakers taken by his party.
PM Deuba held a series of talks with leaders of main opposition UML at the parliament building and at his official residence to resume the obstructed parliament, Minister Karki said, adding that the talks would continue. “Prime Minister is effortful to resume parliament. UML has yet to pledge to clear the parliamentary obstruction.”
He however said deliberation in principle on the MCC compact would begin in the parliament session on Friday and the issues concluded with a broader consensus.
