People still vote based on kinship and ethnicity, Bijukchhe says
Nepal Workers’ and Peasants’ Party (NWPP) Chairperson Narayan Man Bijukchhe claimed that the Nepali people were accustomed to vote on the basis of kinship and ethnic proximity.
In his address to the 33th central council meeting of the NWPP, he said there should not be divisions based on religion, ethnicity and language. Admitting that complete changes could not be brought about in traditional society having deep-rooted religious beliefs and divisions based on ethnicity and languages, he said political parties having grounded organizational base could only gain principled votes in the constituencies.
“It is wrong to expand organizational base of the party on ethnic lines. But, it is inevitable to study different ethnic dynamics to understand Nepal. Today’s need of the hour is to make publicity of materialistic perspective”, he asserted.
The central council meeting was attended by party’s central office-bearers and members, district chairpersons and representatives, people-based organizations and representatives of professional organizations.
As informed, the meeting had endorsed various national and international proposals. Party central member Surendra Raj Gosain informed that the party had passed 23 national and 10 international proposals.
